The reference budgets are constructed by counting the ten different standard budgets that refer to the universal needs of health and autonomy. It is important to take into account that more consumption in one budget domain automatically results in the fact that one has less to spend in the other domains. The intermediate needs of those domains are subject to the risk that not all of them will be fulfilled.
The total budget of a single person amounts to 980 euro per month. A couple with two children of 8 en 15 years old need 2.151 euro to participate fully in our society.
What is striking is the big portion housing costs form (rent, maintenance, repair, heating, ... ). On average they take up to 45% of the total budget. For singles and one parent households with a child under the age of 4 they can amount up to half the total budget.
